- West Virginia State Capitol
West Virginia has the most gorgeous State Capitol, but I could be biased. The State Capitol grounds are magnificent. The Kanawha River is across the avenue. Bring nuts for the shrews, who are going to devour them right out of their hands. For 44 years, I was fortunate to call wild and magnificent West Virginia home. Although this is not an exhaustive list, these 7 activities will show you how wonderful the state is. West Virginia is, in the words of John Denver’s renowned “Country Roads” song, “Almost Heaven.”
- Oglebay Park’s Winter Festival of Lights
Wheeling has had one of the best Christmas light displays in the country since 1985. This six-mile road is with 300 acres of lights and displays. Oglebay’s Winter Festival of Lights was one of the “10 Best Christmas Light Displays” in the US by AOL Travel. Don’t forget to see Santa and stop for cookies and hot chocolate at the finish.
- Appalachian Power Park
Come out and see the West Virginia Power play baseball, America’s favourite pastime. The local baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds. He is also a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Appalachian Power Park is spectacular and sponsors many fun and charitable activities. The cuisine is delicious, the entry is reasonable. There are plenty of activities for children.
- WV’s Only Amusement Park
Camden Park, home of the joyful clown, is a modest but entertaining amusement park founded in 1902. This 26-acre complex’s crowd favourites include the Big Dipper, Paratrooper, and Rattler. Long-term visitors, like myself, will recall pronto pups (which are still available) and the roller rink. To save money and make the afternoon more family-oriented, we bring our lunch.
- Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
This Stone Psychiatric Hospital in Weston, WV, has been in operation for 130 years. And has done more lobotomies than any other facility in the country. That’s haunted tours. Years ago, my friends, children, and I had a private trip. Even after the encounter, our images featured so many orbs that they were frightening. Overnight possibilities come every year, but especially around Halloween. When hauntings appear to be on the rise.
- Kanawha Falls
Kanawha Falls is a spectacular waterfall that spans the Kanawha River in Glen Farris. I never pass here without stopping to shoot the falls and the contrast of the falls glistening behind a rusting old power station. There are waterfalls in both directions from Kanawha Falls, so keep your eyes peeled. Glen Ferris Inn, only a short distance away, is a lovely place to stop for lunch and baked pies.

- Exhibition Coal Mine
When you tour the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine in Raleigh County. You are going to discover about West Virginia’s rich coal industry history. Visitors can take a guided tour deep below the earth to view the cramped conditions. The miners worked from April 1 to November 2. Bring a jacket because the mine is always 58 degrees.
- Greenbrier Resort
The world-famous Greenbrier Resort, which began in 1778 and is a National Historic Landmark, is “America’s Resort.” Consider exquisite eating, upscale shopping, and a plethora of amenities. Instagram-worthy swimming pools, an intriguing casino, a top-rated spa, and a prestigious golf course. These are a handful of the attractions in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The Greenbrier’s Christmas Shop at the Depot is a must-see for both mum and kids.
