These are the best games where you can change your character’s gear!
RPGs have a lot of different parts that make them what they are. Bad guys that are too strong, strange items, a brave storyline, and so many skills it’s hard to count them all.
What do you do when you get a skill you can’t use, though? When you want to be a berserker instead of the famous sneaky archer? You’ll need to respec your character for those times. That’s not always possible in RPGs, though. But here are some games that do have that extra bit of comfort.
Borderlands
In the Borderlands series, games have always been a good mix of being easy to play and having a fun FPS/RPG feel.
It’s not cheap when it comes to respec, and it’s surprisingly easy to do in any game in the series. If you find yourself going too far down a vault hunter’s skill tree, this is a great tool to help you back up.
People who have played RPGs before and people who have never played one before will both enjoy this.
Elden Ring
Someone who has been damaged in the Elden Ring can choose to focus on a lot of different skills. It can be helpful to change your character’s specs every so often when you’re exploring the places between.
It gets more and more important to respec your character as you find new tools and learn what you are good at. This is great when you hit the edge of your skill’s range.
It’s possible to change your specs at any time, but it costs one Larval Tear. Oh, what a strange market.
Divinity Original Sin 2
In the world of RPGs, Divinity Original Sin 2 is one of the few games with respec skills that can be used in any way.
You can change your character’s specs as much as you want at either Fort Joy or, after Act 2, The Lady o’ War, where there are magic mirrors. You may have started the game with big goals of becoming the Elven Ranger of your dreams, but by the end you can be a Wizard casting spells or even a knight swinging a heavy sword.
The Witcher 3
It’s not easy to be Geralt of Rivia. Monsters, people who are monsters, a student who might be the chosen one, and lots of loves. He never has an easy time in life.
Since Geralt bought a Potion Of Clearance in The Witcher 3, he doesn’t have to worry about being stuck with skills he doesn’t want anymore. Because they’re hard to find, don’t think you can just chug them whenever you want. Keep them on hand for those “just in case” times. What about those other issues…
Mass Effect
When people talk about big space adventure RPGs, they always bring up the Mass Effect series. It’s good that Commander Shepherd and Pathfinder Ryder can change their specs before starting their tasks.
In most games, all you have to do to spec is go to your ship and find the right terminal, which is generally in the medical bay or research wing. This lets you change your character practically at any time, which makes the game much more interesting when you face new tasks.
Diablo 4
There’s no doubt that Diablo 4‘s world is a sad one. It’s one of the easier things in the game to change your character’s specs, though.
If you want to change your character’s specs while you’re traveling around Sanctuary or fighting Lilith’s minions, all you have to do is go to their skill tree and start moving points around as you see fit. These rules are pretty simple, and they let you change your class’s skills at any time.
Lords Of The Fallen
There is a war, a demon god, and a lot of scary fantasy monsters in Lords Of The Fallen, so you’ll want to be able to change your specs at some point.
There are some rules about respec in Slope Game, but it is still possible. There will be some hunting and an early boss fight before you get the Shard Of Heroes.
You can take that to a figure to change your character’s specs once you have it. But just once every game. If you still don’t like your character after that, you might want to start over.
Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning
If you die and then come back to life in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, you might want to start over as a fighter.
Well, you can do that without much trouble if you have the Fateweaver and a lot of gold. This helps you get around Amalur and its many lands a little easier, and you’ll need all the peace of mind you can get when you’re trying to beat Tirnoch. You don’t have control over the fate of the world or anything…
Fallout 76
Fallout games haven’t always let players change their characters’ specs. They mostly only get one set of perks and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. skills at a time.
Except when it comes to Fallout 76. Not like most RPGs, this part of it is different: you can find or make a perk card machine instead. You can make perk loadouts ahead of time here. You don’t have to completely change your character’s specs, but perk cards handle most of your powers and skills, so it’s pretty much the same.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
There’s a good reason why the Dragon Age games are some of the most well-known FPS games. This is also true for Dragon Age: Inquisition.
If you really don’t want a skill, you can get it again with the Tactician’s Renewal as long as you still have the gold to buy it. When you are trying to save Thedas from Corypheus, this makes a big difference.
It is one of the easier respecs to get, but that doesn’t make the game worse in any way.
