Regardless of the speedy development in palm oil processing, production, and export, Malaysia is currently facing a decline in the growth of the natural environment and the deterioration of the environment. In this crucial time, some inspiring young people have come forward in the field of Palm Oil and Biotechnology to prevent the further degradation of natural habitats and the environment. European Engineer Hong Wai Onn is one of the famous names in the Palm Oil and Biotechnology industry. 

Hong Wai Onn is a seasoned professional in the field of chemical engineering with more than fifteen years of field experience and expertise from Malaysia. He is a proud holder of the Malaysia Book of Records and a founding member of the Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group (POPSIG).

Hong did his bachelor’s in chemical engineering from the top university of Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, in 2006. Later in 2011, he received a distinctive diploma in Palm Oil Milling Technology and Management from the board of Malaysia Palm Oil. He enhanced his academic qualification with a glorious Executive MBA from the famous school in the United States called Quantic School of Business and Technology in 2022. His academic achievements do not stop there, as he was documented as a Freeman of the City of London, shining in his academic field, he was well regarded as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Throughout his career, he emphasized the importance of the practical application of biochemical as well as chemical engineering to make the industrial work of palm oil effective and more efficient, resulting in a greener industry. He is an active member in environmental-related projects such as circular bioeconomy.

With an astonishing career in the palm oil and biotechnology industry, he is also an amazing award-winning author of the book A Chemical Engineer in the Palm Oil Milling Industry, published in 2020. In his book, he discussed the future aspects of the palm oil industry in Malaysia and the rising opportunities of chemical engineering in the field of the palm oil industry. In addition to this, he is an excellent public speaker, contributing to the future and sustainability of chemical engineering through his public speeches. 

Furthermore, he provided his services in the IChemE Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group as a founding member that thrives for continuous success toward a greener future in the palm oil industry.

Not only does Hong excel in his career, but he is also an active volunteer, contributing to selfless services for the betterment of society through actively taking part in professional and non-profit organizations. For his selfless services, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) in Malaysia etched his name amidst the honored ranks by holding the respectable position of Honorary Secretary.
